With winter, one of the positives locals can take is that it’s ski season. But all good things must come to an end.
This weekend is the final weekend of skiing at Bear Mountain, open from Friday to Sunday.
To celebrate the final day on Sunday, the ski hill is hosting a family fun day.
“We have races, prizes, free hot dogs, pop on the deck,” says manager Gord Schmidt. “Just a good happy day for everybody.”
For those not just content with a relaxing day on the slopes, there will be timed races — which with extensive timing equipment, and observers upstairs tracking, will be a bit of a big deal.
But for more casual skiers, don’t worry.
“Everybody wins, we’ve got prizes for everybody. It’s not a problem,” says Schmidt.
“Then we’re done for the season until the snow comes, hopefully, early December of next year.”
Friday night will also see the final of the weekly steak nights.
The weekend after will see snowmobile racing at Bear Mountain.
