Mountain bike cyclists are in La Bresse, France, this week for the final world cup event prior to the UCI Mountain Bike World Championships in Lenzerheide, Switzerland.
Finals in downhill racing for elite women and men are Saturday, followed by the cross-country finals on Sunday. Only cross-country is an Olympic event.
La Bresse is the course where Aaron Gwin clinched the first of his back-to-back world cup titles in 2011. He’s back looking to take home another win.
Joining Gwin in the men’s downhill are Luca Shaw, Charlie Harrison, Dakotah Norton, Neko Mulally and Max Morgan. Shaw is ranked fifth in men’s downhill and Gwin is ninth.
Kate Courtney, who is coming off a third-place finish in a cross-country short circuit world cup race in Mont-Sainte-Anne, Quebec, and is ranked ninth, is among four U.S. women in the cross-country races Sunday. Joining her are two-time Olympian Lea Davison, 2016 Olympian Chloe Woodruff and Erin Huck.
2016 Olympian Howard Grotts is in the men’s cross-country event.
