An Easton Area High School graduate on a hiking trip in Alaska was found dead Sunday.
A massive search ensued, although weather initially delayed an air search. Durco was found at the bottom of a steep chute. He was 33 years old and was hiking near his home in Cordova, Alaska, the report says.
Easton Area School District Assistant Superintendent Alyssa Emili confirmed Durco graduated from Easton Area High School in 2004.
A gofundme.com site raised more than $20,000 for the search effort to find Durco.
A vigil is planned for Oct. 19 at 253 Thomas Road in Tobyhanna Township, Monroe County, according to a Facebook post.
“Neil liked to celebrate and commemorate everything he could with beer and a bonfire, so that’s what we’re doing. Anyone and everyone who was lucky enough to have their lives touched by the greatest guy ever are invited,” the post says, adding “We all want to hear about all the great and weird things he did to touch our lives and make us laugh.”
